Behind the Lens
Finding beauty where light emerges from darkness
Hi, I’m Michaela, a photographer based in the southern Netherlands.
Photography started as a creative outlet, but it soon became a part of everyday life. From delicate flowers and quiet landscapes to city streets and the energy of live events, I’m always drawn to moments that make me stop and look a little longer. Rather than focusing on a single subject, I enjoy exploring whatever catches my eye and tells a story.
My photography is inspired by atmosphere rather than perfection. I love natural light, rich contrast and muted colours that create images with a timeless, almost painterly feel. Light has always been at the heart of my photography. I’m fascinated by the way it emerges from shadow, revealing atmosphere, emotion and the details that often go unnoticed. Every photograph on this website is captured and edited by me using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to preserve the emotion I experienced in that moment.
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me travelling, attending concerts, exploring flea markets and vintage shops or getting lost in immersive, story-driven video games. I have a soft spot for antiques and love restoring old furniture, giving forgotten pieces a second life and filling my home with timeless character. Whether it’s an old quiet street, a forgotten antique, or a beautifully crafted fictional world, I’m always drawn to atmosphere and storytelling. Those same influences shape the timeless atmosphere I strive to capture in my photography.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy exploring my work as much as I enjoyed creating it.
